The ENERGY STARŪ can be found on televisions, VCRs, DVDs, and home audio equipment. You may not be aware, but when your television is turned off it's still using electricity. Electric loads that are low in power, usually 20 watts or less, but run continuously are called "phantom loads." Phantom loads consume lots of energy, but aren't obvious. This is true for appliances that use remote controls to turn the power on and off or have lighting displays.
