What is the ENERGY STAR program?
ENERGY STAR is a set of voluntary energy-efficiency programs, sponsored by the US Environmental
Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy. ENERGY STAR sets standards for, and
labels, energy efficient products. It also sets standards of energy efficiency for homes
and businesses. Products can only gain an ENERGY STAR label it they meet specific
energy efficiency standards. The labeling system helps consumers choose energy efficient
equipment and homes. It also provides an incentive to builders and manufacturers to
improve the efficiency of their products.
