ENERGY STAR® Qualified Home Electronics
The ENERGY STAR logo can be found on televisions, VCRs, and home audio equipment.
You may not be aware, but when
your television is turned off it's still using electricity. Electric loads that are
low in power, usually 20 watts or less, but run continuously are called "phantom
loads." Phantom loads consume lots of energy, but aren't obvious. This is
true for appliances that use remote to turn the power on and off or have lighting
displays.
Televisions and VCRs

Televisions labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo require 3 watts or less of
power when turned off, while traditional models use as much as 12 watts when
turned off, that's a 75% savings in energy use.
VCRs labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo require 4 watts
or less of power when turned off, while traditional models use as much as
13 watts when turned off, that's a 70% savings in energy use.
Home Audio Equipment
Home audio equipment labeled with the
ENERGY STAR logo require 2 watts or less of power
when turned off. Home audio products include cassette decks, CD players/changers,
clock radios, stereo receivers, powered speakers, and much more.
Digital versatile disk (DVD) players require 3 watts or less of power when
turned off.
